Good to see it is still in existence.

I am going to focus my thoughts on a few different things at the moment. Since my last entry, I have been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. It is not in my immediate family, and I have my own theory as to why this is happening to not only myself, but millions of others across the country in my age group. This is typically something they say comes on in your 40's. Well, let me just tell you all. I just turned 37 last month. I was diagnosed last May and it has been a bit of a struggle ever since. That is just one thing I am going to touch upon in my new and improved entries.

Secondly, in light of the entire Occupy Movement, I have to honestly say how disappointed I am to find that the ones who have taken an oath to serve and protect us, are the ones we need to be protected from. I have seen countless time the unjust treatment of those who are simply trying to make a point. However, I am most disappointed in the way their fellow citizen has spoken of and to the movement. The point of the movement may have escaped you. That is fine; but, where does it give you anti-occupy people the right to harass and otherwise bully your fellow human being? I have found that most who do, either do not understand the message; or simply do not care, and are upset that 'this' may be slightly disrupting their everyday lives. Shame on you all for being so selfish. While you are entitled to your opinion, please allow me to express that you do not speak for me, or others like me, who are in complete solidarity with the movement and its message.

Thirdly, why is everyone so upset that Rhode Island's state Christmas tree is being officially called a 'Holiday Tree'? Last time I checked, this country was formed on the basis of religious freedom and separation of church and state. Governor Lincoln Chafee, as a servant to the public, yes that is right, a servant to 'We The People', did exactly what is right given the position he is in. Get over it, Christians. Your religion is not the only one out there.

The last thing I am going to touch upon here is the constant removal of our basic human rights by none other than the people you voted in office - The Congressional body of the USA. They have passed provisions based on scare tactics. These provisions could very well limit, if not completely do away with, our 'freedom' as we know it. I can certainly attest that Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse will NEVER get another vote from this citizen, no way. The government has way too much involvement in our everyday lives as it is, and unfortunately, most of us cannot afford to buy our own. Stop feeding into the lies, read the Patriot Act over again. Understand what it really means for you, as an American. That is all I ask.

In closing, I would like to wish every single person reading this, of every denomination, a wondrous and safe holiday season.

    ~Chrissyisms~

Halloween to CHANGE in RI?

In the midst of tough economic times, people are looking for their legislators here for relief; for answers; for help. People are looking for the creation of jobs. People are looking to no longer be a part of the unemployment statistics. Dirty Deeds was playing, and to me, they are the epitome of excellence when it comes to tribute bands. Often I get teased by some of my other friends who think I clearly have forgotten that there are other bands out there besides them. I won't mention any names....

Usually, when I go see Dirty Deeds, I do not make it there for the opening band's performance. To me, it isn't really a big deal since I am not going to see that band anyway. This particular Friday night was a little bit different. I actually wanted to see this band. I mean, who wouldn't? Just about everyone I know LOVES the music of Rush, but can these guys PLAY it. That was what I wondered. The band who was on before Deeds was Lotus Land, and I couldn't have been more impressed than I was the first time I saw Bob Conti pass out shots at the bar during "Have a Drink on Me."

The energy was unsurpassed as what looked like the real Geddy Lee was belting out vocals. It wasn't Geddy Lee, however, it was Chris Nelson (dubbed AKA Naski on their website: www.lotuslandband.com) The music was perfectly in sync, and if I didn't only travel a half mile away to see them alongside my all time favorite tribute band, I could have almost sworn I was at a Rush show.

To sum this up, they were amazing, and to pair them up with Dirty Deeds was clearly an act of sheer brilliance. Way to go JR's!!!

Be sure to check them out with another great band, ALIVE Kiss Tribute (New England) at the Palace Theater; Waterbury, CT. on May 15th, yet another great "Don't wanna miss" Pair!!

~Chrissyisms

Dirty Deeds

I must say, I do go and see Dirty Deeds a lot. It's as if they're the only band out there in my little world; but I have to give credit where credit is due. The fact of the matter is that at every show, no matter what kind of mood you may be in, these guys will be certain to turn it around or make it better. I honestly have not seen a show that they have put on that was bad, or even mediocre for that matter. It's always a screaming good time.

What makes this band unique? I wonder if it is the fact that besides being incredible musicians, they are also amazing people....they don't ever miss a beat, and they know how to show you a good time. There are some interesting riffs involved in AC DC songs and let me just say, Randy and Mike have them mastered, no doubt.

Bob amazes me. He is barely 21 and still keeps rockin'. (wink) Not to mention Barry and Roger who are ALWAYS in sync, exactly the way a bassist and drummer SHOULD be. If you haven't seen them yet, you really do not know what you are missing. They truly are the best thing to happen to AC DC since....well...AC DC; so much in fact, the band logo is permanently on my left shoulder blade....yeahhh. I haven't yet decided who I am going to torture with my blog reviews yet, but as soon as I do, you will be the first to know.

I would certainly love to see Dave Matthews again, but that would be a biased no brainer for me, since he is definitely by far one of the most talented artists and song writers I have ever heard in my entire life. Therefore, I may just post some orgasmic pictures if I do get the opportunity to see him perform again this year. It has been, after all, about four years since Chris Parenti and I made the voyage into Massachusetts to be teased lovingly with the sweet sound of Dave's magical voice echoing across the venue.

STAY TUNED!!

~Chrissyisms

Amazing.

Just another day in my life. Things change all the time for me. I was dating a cool guy and unfortunately it didn't work out. These things happen. We are still friends, and that is what is important.

In the meantime, I learned that sometimes something has to end in order for something wonderful to happen. That is exactly what happened. That is when Rob and I took our friendship one step further, and it was probably the best thing that we could have done.

I won't count my chickens before they hatch but I will say that this has the potential to turn itself into a lifetime movie.

Rob is everything I am NOT used to, but have dreamed about. He is sweet. He is honest. He is caring. He is the most lovable guy I have ever encountered; so much that it's almost impossible to believe. He is very cute. He likes the same stuff I do; wrestling, music.

Time will tell what happens, but I have a good feeling about this one. It was pretty warm for February, and the wind was blowing just enough to not make you freeze. I went outside to smoke a cigarrette, yeah, I know, one day I will quit those things. As I was out there, there was something peaceful about the setting. The sun was shining, the wind blowing, and you can hear the wind blowing off of the bay from where I was standing.
I began to think about a few things. Since it is Valentine's Day, a certain thing came to mind. I thought about how this entire weekend played out. It was a nice weekend for the most part, and everytime we get together, we seem to be able to open up a little bit more to one another. As with anything that is this scary there is always some doubt. Although, it seems I am the one carrying most of the doubt burden. He seems to know exactly what it is he is trying to do, where he wants to be, and who he wants to be with.
I cannot explain why I question any of it. I can, however, explain what I think of it all. I do not share the same thoughts as he, being that we could have started this twenty years ago. I remember what I was like then, and oddly, I recall what he was like then as well. We totally would have been at that time, so wrong for each other. There is no doubt in my mind about that.
I do know that just a simple glance by him, or a kiss, a hug, anything is enough to make me melt; almost instantaneously. There really isn't a lot I can do about that. It's just the way it is. And, do I really want to change that anyhow? No, I do not. I can look into his eyes and see the things he sometimes doesn't say; that I say all the time. With that, I can feel it. Just being with him gives me the absolute best feeling I have ever had. EVER.
I know where this is heading. I knew almost from the start.I just have to keep myself in check when things are less than perfect and make sure I don't attempt to run.
We both made a mutual promise to each other today. He knows what it is. I intend to keep mine. Through all of the trying times and rough ones, we are still here...and still WANT to be.
And, now I will go...I will leave my mom's house to go home, missing him like crazy...almost to tears, the way I always do. The exact same way one would....when they're in love.

Valentine's Poll

So psychologists claim that you can choose whether or not to fall in love with someone. I was offered the job and I took it. The initial first day was an orientation day located in Downtown drive Providence. I know this sounds crazy but one problem with a lot of Rhode Islanders is the fact that they do not like to drive "all that way"; and although I was not too familiar with Northern Rhode Island much, I was familiar with Providence. It was an easy first day as far as commuting is concerned. Jump on a RIPTA bus and get dropped RIGHT there, in front of the building. The following day would not be as easy, however.

My second day consisted of a trip to Lincoln, RI, which I wasn't familiar with at all. So, i had decided to follow someone up there, so not to get lost on my first day in the training area. It was fairly simple, or at least I thought. Lincoln, RI is kind of rural, although oddly enough, there is a mall. It seems strange to have a mall virtually in the middle of no where, but they have one.

I made it there the second day, but the next day (second day of training, third day as an employee of Bank of America) I did not have anyone to follow, and yes, my worst fears were realized. I got LOST. I picked up my cell phone and tried to call a few of the various numbers they had provided us with on orientation day. I really just wanted help getting there. All I received was voice mails -one after the other, nothing more than voice mail. It was up to me to try and figure this out. I left a message on one of the voice mails, informing them of my mishap, explaining that I would be late, but that I was feverishly trying to find my way there.

After I left the message, I dialed 411 and obtained the number for Lincoln police, where I called to get directions. I looked at the clock. I wondered if I was going to make it on time. Unfortunately, I was 5 minutes (if that) late for training class.

I walked into training class late, which already was embarrassing enough, but when I did, the trainer apparently decided I was going to be made an example for the rest of the trainees. I was told this was an "incident" and that I would be reprimanded by a call center supervisor. I did not say a word, but took my seat. Ten minutes later, two other trainees strolled in, making them at least fifteen minutes late. Not a word was spoken to them by the trainer.

Half way through the day, the time came when the trainer decided to march me down to the call center floor, and make me answer for my tardiness to a supervisor. I had never been so humiliated in my life. I did not know these people, and was already thoroughly embarrassed by the simple fact that I walked into the room late, and by the way the trainer "scolded" me in front of the entire class of trainees.

The supervisor sat down at her desk and said to me "You were late this morning. What do you have to say about this?" So, I very cordially explained the situation, at which time I was told it would NOT be tolerated, and that THIS would be considered an "incident" (which is obviously the term BOA uses for "warning".) I again tried to nicely plead my case and explain what happened. I then inquired about the other two girls who strolled in ten minutes after me. "With all due respect, I understand your position, but are you doing this to the other girls also?" to which the supervisor sharply replied "What I do with other employees is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!"

I was appalled and shocked at the way I had been treated, after just my 2nd day here. Never in my life had I been belittled so unprofessionally by any manager or corporation. I took a deep breath, and kindly stated to the woman "Well, I apologize for being less than five minutes late, however, to be quite frank with you, if this is how you treat your employees, seasoned or new, I really don't think I want to work for you." I took the work ID badge off of my neck, and handed it to the lady, and smiled and said "You have a nice day now." I calmly left the building.

You may be asking why I am telling you this story. That is a good question. After I left that day, I wound up with another job at a different banking center, for a different bank, and had much success while working there; that is until they started to downsize as a result of the dwindling economy.

PRESENT DAY: Let's fast forward 6 years. It is February 2010. Everyone is out of work virtually, or at least a good percentage, with Rhode Island coming second to Michigan for unemployment severity. I put out no less than fifteen resumes per day. From the nicest of jobs to the worst possible jobs imaginable. To me, at this point, ANY job will do.

The other day I received a phone call from a temp agency telling me that they sent my resume over to their client and the client wanted me for the position. I agreed to the position.

Turns out the position is for Bank of America. I really didn't give it much thought. It wasn't in the Lincoln call center it was in downtown Providence.

The agent stated that BOA does a check to see if you are rehirable. (Remember, I would have been working for the AGENCY not BOA) I received a phone call stating that after my information was run, it came back that I was NOT rehirable. I said to the agent "I don't understand why, I wasn't terminated...", And I proceeded to explain the story.

In the meantime I obtained the HR department's phone number. I wanted this straightened out.

I called. Transferred 4 times. Finally, in the right department. I was told it was a code that supervisor I met with put in the system after I left that day, and that there was nothing anyone could do about it. I was also told that the supervisor who put the code in was no longer employed by BOA so there was no way to get it removed because she is no longer there to verify the incident in question. Then I was told it was put there because I didn't give a two week notice before terminating my employment with BOA.

REALLY??? BOA blacklisted me because a trainer and supervisor were having a BAD DAY? And decided to make ME an example? They never even reprimanded the other two girls who were THREE TIMES AS LATE AS I WAS?! I demanded it be lifted. I was constantly told no.

With this information, and my story, I am going above their heads and writing to the CEO. Bank of America FAILS.

As for me? Back to the painful relentless task of job hunting...

~Chrissyisms

Things That Suck in RI

I hate the way RI is lately, so I thought I would bring about a list of things that I think suck in RI. This could include people, places, things or ideas-basically, most anything...Here goes:

1. Governor Carcieri: Topping my list is the Guvna. This guy couldn't run a city on SIM CITY. Why is he in charge of an entire STATE? RI'ers, EPIC FAIL electing this bo-bo TWICE.

2. Kent Hospital: I think people would receive better care at an animal clinic. Thanks to James Woods, you are NOW under a microscope. ABOUT fricken time.

3. RI in itself has LIMITED number of programs to help its ever growing and alarmingly rising population of poor and homeless citizens. Yeah, buddy, that is you, me, your elderly mom, your best friend, it is EVERYWHERE. EPIC FAIL.

4. Warwick Public Schools: Who would rather push your child through the system so not to hold them back SOCIALLY-even if academically they didn't make the cut...But hey, who needs Math and language skills when they will work and play well with others just fine. Would YOU like fries with that?

5. President Obama: I really thought that by giving you my vote, the one thing I am entitled to, my ONLY voice in this world, you would definitely at least do a better job at FAKING keeping your campaign promises. I still see no hope. Where is this change you speak of? Why are you sending money and what not to Haiti when your own people are struggling with this lovely economy? Why can I not find a job even though I have sent out no less than 15 resumes per day for a year? Dude, seriously. STOP smiling for the camera. LEAVE HEALTH CARE ALONE FOR NOW. And damn it, get your people BACK ON TRACK!

6. Every network television station in America: Why not hold a 12 hour telethon to help this country's poor who lost their jobs due to lay offs and cut backs in an ever failing economy alongside the ones you do for 3rd world countries in a disaster? I CHALLENGE you to do so.

7. Opportunists: (IE: Rich snotty people) You know, the ones who force you out of your home, uproot your kids, then tear down your old house, just to make a buck...yeah...screw those types.

8. Narcissists: It's NOT all about you....really.

9. Anyone who says I can't do something: All you people do is make me want to defeat you more. I'll see you on my couch when I get my psyche degree, at which time you can kiss my ass.

10. Did I mention my entire state at this point? People can't afford to stay, they can't afford to leave...EPIC FAIL. Grab a box and move on over. There is 12.9% of the population who are unemployed in this state looking for a spot under that bridge.

**WEATHER ADVISORY**

BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 1 PM EST SUNDAY
UNTIL 7:45PM EST
Urgent - Winter Weather Message
National Weather Service Taunton MA
1144 AM EST Sat Dec 19 2009

... Besides that, once you got to know him, he's a pretty cool guy! (Still can't picture the long hair though...) He has pretty good taste in music too. So, with that being said, Professor Schmidt, I do hope the winds of change are good to you and lead you back towards CCRI again one day.
Take care.

~Chrissyisms

It's Like That.... : )

I have been contemplating what to begin my December blogging with for a while now, as you can see, it is December tenth and I am just now posting. A lot has happened in the last few weeks. The first semester of my psychology training is coming to a close, and in one case, it is bittersweet. But in my four other classes, it is grim. I really enjoyed my professors, enjoyed tapping their brain, and am grateful that they have shared their knowledge with me.
I had an awesome birthday. I really thought 35 was going to be a scream- that is, me ripping my hair out screaming. It wasn't like that at all. My friends all made it an awesome night, and Dirty Deeds, the AC DC cover band I so love, made it all the more rockin'. So far, it is the best one to date.

I discovered something about myself that night too. I discovered that you should never assume anything until you know for sure. I have to give Jody credit for that one. Yet still, I am glad I took the path I did in junior high, otherwise, as fate may have it, we may not even be speaking now; contrary to your more positive look on a possible outcome (giggle). However, those things can still be done. We don't have much catching up to do, and just lots of good times ahead I am sure.

I am still not a huge fan of Christmas. It is a horrendous time of year for parents up until about 2a.m. Christmas Eve. LOL when we get to sleep. Especially for those of us who cannot afford to fill the "List" this year. My thoughts are with you all.

And, thus, we have the beginning of my December blog....

~Chrissyisms

Twenty years.....

Since I was a teen....and I STILL frickin' ROCK... *giggle*

Come on, you didn't think I used a program did you?

What is with this "I got a lot of followers using....blah blah..." on Twitter? Truth is, 99% of these postings result in spam sites. Also, before you use one, lol, seriously guys, check the follower lists of those who are posting it. I laugh because everyone I have seen has had less than a thousand followers. However, THEY seem to be following more than double their own following amount...hmm. I smell a rat.

Really, you could just take the easy way out, and gain followers the way I did...by simply being yourself.

~Chrissyisms

Don't be part of the fail tree

Rhode Island...why in hell are you not ANGRY? Yesterday approx. 400 students were out sick, while another 100 + have been confirmed to have "flu-like symptoms".

The way it works is you get tested for Influenza A (H1N1 is a type of influenza A) and influenza B (seasonal flu, not known to have struck yet in the season. In the earlier cases, if someone tested positive for A, the Dr's were required to take an additional swab and send it off to RI Dept. of Health for further reviewal.

Upon reviewal, they found that those who tested positive for A tested positive for H1N1 (swine flu). The Dr's now know that if a person tests positive for A, chances are they have swine. (70% chance).

Governor Don Carcieri and RI Department of Health stated in a news conference today that they do not feel it is necessary to inform parents that swine flu is in their school. Alot of parents are outraged.

To top it off, Warwick's hardest hit school, Pilgrim High School, is one of the schools last on the list to receive the vaccine. Alongside Aldrich Jr High, Winman Jr High, Robertson Elementary, and Randall Holden. The list was created using a "lottery" system as opposed to necessity.

Please join us in letting the RI Dept of Health, Gov. However, all I see happening is ego-feeding. It seems that our President has taken great pride in being a celebrity. And really, who can blame him? Is that NOT what we all dream of at one time or another in our lifetimes? I challenge you to a few things.

What about the other side, Mr. President? I wonder how Washington reps., including yourself, would feel if, instead of talking a lot of nonsense and vowing to send support, you would just take a walk down Main Street. Absorb the sounds. Absorb the sights. Go sit down and talk with a family who has been enlisted in our armed forces for generations, and struggle as they may, STILL have this sense of loyalty; a sense of being in the greatest country ever formed.

Come to Rhode Island, visit Michigan, and take a look at the people in those two places who are struggling everyday just to find a job. Have a look and a coffee with a single mother (such as myself) and her life as she strives to do all she can to raise her children with what little she has (and fathers, too).

Go and meet the children of those single parents who recite the pledge of allegiance daily in school, with their hand nestled over their hearts, knowing all too well that although they have been warned many times that it is not their concern (as it is an "adult" problem), their parents are struggling just to keep their heads above water.

Come and visit Rhode Island. Yes, we exist, sir, and explain to the people living in the shelters why there is not adequate housing available to them in this time of economic need. Explain to people looking for jobs why they have to pay close to three dollars for a measley gallon of gas to get them around, that is, if they can even afford a car. While you are there, Look around and take notice of the number of small businesses, which, at one time or another, were Rhode Island's backbone, who now have to close their doors and uproot someplace else. And with that being said, there really aren't too many choices for that uprooting is there?

I am a single parent. I do not recall things EVER being so bad in my lifetime. I wish my grand dad was still with us so that perhaps he can shed some light on how exactly they survived the great depression. I, like so many others, could certainly use all the help I could get right now, even if it is just advice on survival.

Personally, I feel the priorities are a little messed up at the moment. Perhaps if more people felt secure in their jobs, or had jobs for that matter, maybe-just maybe people would be a little more receptive to fixing the health care system. I suppose you have to fix only the things you feel confident that you can change, right?

To be quite concise, I am not at all concerned about health care right now. I am more concerned with my ability to provide for my children in a country who has let me and a lot of others down. So much for the land of opportunity. I'm just not feeling it.

I do hope that you make good on your word other than just healthcare reform and at least try to be there for "the lil guy". Bailing out the banks and car manufacturers? What good that did I will never know.

Oh...One more thing. Thanks for the extra $25 in our unemployment checks. That's a little bit more gas each week, and perhaps the occasional candy bar we like to treat our kids to once in a while.

Sincerely,

Chrissyisms

Mr. Breeze

What a treat it was to go to Mardi Gras this past Friday night. When we got there, we had no idea who was playing in JR's, or anything. I have kind of slowed down my band reviewing and all since I started school in September. On this night, however, Henry and I decided "eh, why not?" and decided to go, just for a little while.

We were not disappointed! There were a total of three bands playing there that night, and sadly, we did not get to see the first. Typically, we always go into JR's first, because the best bartender ever tends the bar in there. As always, that is what we did.

We walk in and the first thing I hear is this awesome sound. "Sounds like Skynyrd" I say to Henry. Then I look over on stage and wow, I was mesmerized. We stayed there and listened for a bit. The sound was so good that I couldn't leave. Not yet.

We stuck around for a bit, which is a bit unusual of me unless it is someone like Separate Ways or Dirty Deeds, two bands I make sure I never miss out on. I was not sorry that I did not bounce around from club to club at that moment.

Mr. Breeze is by FAR the best Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band I have ever heard. They did an excellent job with the music, and Johnny Ray, well, he was just plain sweet. After their set was done, they came out to the outdoor bar and I made it a point to let him know that I thought they rocked. He was really a very nice guy, and very sweet.

So, listen up RI, get your butts out to see these guys when they come around! I know I will make note of when and where they are playing and make it a point to see them now. They are also on myspace, so I encourage you to look them up and add them.

You WON'T be disappointed. No way! Good music, good people, good times.

~Chrissyisms

And so it's October

The year tends to just fly by. I already had my first real test at college, and scored 100%, and I have an exam coming up on Monday, and nothing but CRAP in my life right now, and it's just not cool.

My living arrangements suck. Plain and simple. We live in a household where the atmosphere is much like that of the Disney cartoon Cinderella. No kidding. Maybe worse. Unfortunately, being a single mom and all, I just do not see any plausible way out at the moment, shy of winning the lottery.
Also, I am worried that if I leave I will be forced to drop out of school, at least for now. And, who knows if I will ever pick it up again.

It really sucks. I made the effort. I got myself in. I did the paper work. I go to class everyday, and for what? To have to leave it all behind because of economical and social status? Now I know why people never seem to get ahead. Now I know why people give up.

The thirteen year old that lives here is nothing more than a spoiled brat, much like the wicked step sisters of Cinderella. Actually, let me clarify - she is far worse. She harasses me and my kids in every way possible, right down to going through and stealing our stuff, to sending me nasty harassing text messages, to doing things and destroying things, and blaming it on my kids, who later have to face the verbal attack from my aunt, her mother. She has the police sent here every other day due to her acts of stupidity, and her friends are just as bad. No one corrects this child, and when I bring this up, I am the one who is wrong. I believe the last text read: "HAHA MY MOM NEVER BELIEVES YOU . YOU SHOULD JUST SHUT UP OR YOU'LL FIND YOURSELF ON THE STREETS WHERE YOU BELONG".

I just can't deal. Somehow, I have to try. And I am not sure how.

~Chrissyisms

Reflections 1

Sometimes things occur in your life that make you re-evaluate certain aspects of it. I am sure I will have many of said occurances to come, and so this one is called "Reflections 1".

I am not a perfect person, nor do I claim or pretend to be. I try my hardest everyday to do right by everyone. And when I am surrounded by so many different types of people, I simply must remember that approaches work on some and not on others.

Some people find my willingness to help out somebody in a difficult situation to be a bit overbearing. At least, that was what I was told today, by someone I care about. The funny thing is, as typical as it is for me, I did not realize how much I actually cared until that person decided to walk away. Now, it is bothering me ot such an extent that I had tears in my eyes. And really, all I wanted to do was help.

In hindsight, fear also tends to control a lot of my thought process. If I feel like something is spinning out of control, I will do my best, just about anything I can to control it. That is a tick in my fight or flight response, which is kind of neat because as a psychology student, this is what I am studying.

In the future, I will try my hardest to work on these certain "personality" flaws when it comes to dealing with certain people. I truly will try to remember. Until then, my friend, I hope the world is good to you. As I was trying to explain and apparently did a horrible job at doing so, it's a cruel, cruel world out there. I'll never forget you. I hope one day you can see what my intentions were.

©2009 ~Chrissyisms

Trendkill and Joey Belladonna

So Friday night was like any typical Friday night at Mardi Gras. Most of my friends had planned on going anyhow, but the benefit this time was that Trendkill was scheduled to appear along with Chief Bigway, featuring Joey Belladonna formerly of Anthrax.

As I prepared to leave for the club, I thought to myself how cool it was going to be to see Trendkill, and to see Joey Belladonna, well that was just an added bonus. I had no idea how cool it was actually going to be.

We got there, and Trendkill was on stage. These guys are the best Pantera tribute band I have ever encountered. There is so much energy in their playing, and they can really get the crowd going. This is nothing new for them. The last time I saw them was at Rocky Point Pub a few years ago. They did not disappoint me this time either, such a great show.

Then as Trendkill was clearing the stage in anticipation for Joey Belladonna and Chief Bigway to take control of it, there he was, standing right next to me. My friend Joe looks at me and says "Hey Joey is RIGHT THERE say hello!" And, although sometimes shy, I figured "Eh..Why not." And so I did. Let me tell you something...this guy is top notch. He was so nice, and so not clouded as many celebs are. I was impressed with his demeanor.

I decided to try to get a picture with him, I mean, how often are you standing in a local club next to and talking to Joey Belladonna? I cordially asked him if he would mind, and he was all for it. We snapped the first picture, and it came out way to dark, which Joey himself pointed out. He thought we should face the other way in hopes that the stage lights would assist in the lighting for the picture, and right he was. We snapped picture number two, and it came out pretty awesome. I said "have a great show and thanks for coming to RI. " He smiled and went off to get ready for his performance.

The performance was awesome. I particularly liked when they played "Sweet Leaf" by Black Sabbath. It was undoubtedly the best performance of that song by someone other than Ozzy himself.

Joey played the drums with such passion, and engaged the crowd with that same passion he played and sang with. I am very happy I decided to go that night.

To be honest, I wasn't going to go this weekend, until I saw that Trendkill was playing on my facebook. I am so happy I did. Great people, and great performances of some of the best music created made for an awesome night at Mardi Gras. I hope they both come back again soon.

~Chrissyisms

Creed and Crue Fest

Let me start by saying that I was skeptical about Creed. I bought the ticket mainly because it was cheap and something to do. I am not now, nor was ever a big fan. And, they proved me wrong.

The powerful vocals of Scott Stapp probably didn't even need a microphone to carry itself across the venue. Absolutely amazing... Eric Friedman is a touring guitarist and not only was he good, but he is also very down to earth....follow him on twitter : @IIEROCKII I really quite enjoyed the show, and am not disappointed that I saw them, and truly think that we can expect great things from Creed in the future. Welcome back to the music, Creed.

Now, onto Crue Fest 2:
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to see all of the bands associated with Crue Fest 2. I did, however, get to see Godsmack and Motley Crue.

Godsmack put on an AMAZING show. Excellent drum solo/duet, excellent stage show, and they didn't miss anything. Absolutely perfect execution of every song.

Motley Crue on the other hand, well.... It was great to watch them live, they are, after all, legendary; first there was a rumor here that Tommy Lee wasn't even planning on showing up. Then he DID show up. That shows me that Crue is really a synonym for the words "publicity whores". Then, I mean granted, it is THEIR music; and, I am sure somehow that gives them the right to perform it any way they want. But, Vince has a real bad habit of skipping lyrics here and there. Is it cockiness, ignorance, or just the plain fact that maybe, just maybe, they have become or are becoming has beens?

As for the musical end of it, they band itself played pretty good.
I do carry the joy of knowing I can say "Hey, I saw Crue LIVE". Again, remember, they ARE legendary, however, to be honest, if it weren't for the accompanying bands on the tour, I wouldn't have spent the money. And it only cost $10.

~Chrissyisms

~Coming Soon~

I have had the great opportunity to check out a few very awesome bands this summer, Including Creed and Motley Crue. Perhaps even exciting. The cold weather wasn't very bothersome, and the skies still a pale blue. The ships on the ocean, though few, still sailed and the smell of the school bus wasn't so bad.

Once upon a time the sun came out with a cheep from a bird's beak, slight green had turned the trees, and the rain was as cleansing to the earth as a current is to a river.

Once upon a time the sun shared a warmth that only one could find deep within their soul. Flowers were bloomed, music was played, and a kiss was shared. There was cotton candy sold everywhere, along with dough boys and clam chowder, and the sunset was as beautiful as can be.

Once upon a time the leaves began to change, to a vibrant array of colors, as the school bells ring yet again as I stepped into the room full of books and gloom. The trending topic of the moment was the costume to wear, and on Halloween I would go with whom.

Once upon a time...a sweet, sweet time...I remember with everything I do. And why do I remember these things so well, why are they forever in my heart? Because, once upon a time, there was you.

*gosh...wasn't life a whole lot easier at fourteen?*

©2009 ~Chrissyisms

Dreams

Dreams

I know you, though we've yet to meet.
I've seen you in my dreams.
I've heard your voice a million times,In the currents of the streams.
I've seen the glow of your smile
In the heat of dawn's rays.
I've felt your warmth inside my soul I've felt your warm embrace.
I love the way you make me feel,You occupy my mind.
I know one day it is true love
That which we both will find.
My days last so very long
They never seem to end.
I cannot wait for the night
To dream of you again.
Christine Yates
Copyright ©2009 Christine Yates

What does any of it mean anyway?

I have to be honest. I have not given much personal attention to health care reform. It really is unlike me to not pay attention to things that will effect me, especially in the way of government reform in any way. However, I am so tired of hearing about this, and other things, I put a mental block on, and continue to go on with my everyday life.

So, now that I am here, let's explore this a little bit. I watched this video: http://www.healthreform.gov/video/weeklyaddress072509.html and have to be honest, I feel the President was right on track.

Ok, again, I have not checked into it until now, but if what he says in this video is true, then, I would like some of his opponents on this to post a comment, nice ones, please, and tell me why you think this is a bad idea. In fact, all of your thoughts are welcome. Let's have a discussion.

~Chrissyisms

Change the Channel...

Back in the 1990's, my ultimate dream was to become the best radio jock in this state. I went to school. I interned. I realized, somewhere along the lines, that one day computers would take over. It didn't matter to me. I have wanted this since I was seven years old.

I knew a lot of local radio personalities, but one in particular was my hero for the longest time. Mike Gonsalves was known to us here in RI as "The Doctor", or Dr. Metal. He ran "The Metal Zone" on 94 WHJY, in Providence, a Clear Channel owned station. He was an amazing person. He demonstrated such an energy, such a love for his job. Such an admiration for the music.

Mike, knowing how I felt about radio, told me something one day. He told me "If it's in your blood, kid, you can't get it out. Just go for it. You'll make a great rock jock one day!" And so, there was my inspiration. I will carry those words with me forever since, after all, those words are what prompted me to "go for it" and sign up for broadcasting school.

Sadly, Mike was taken away from us way too soon. He lost his life in February 2003 when he was Emceeing a show at The Station Nightclub in West Warwick, RI, and for me, radio has never been the same.
( see : http://www.boston.com/news/packages/nightclub_fire/victims/list.htm)

Now here I am in 2009, watching the world happen from a box. A small box, that fits on your lap, portable, and full of neat things you can do. And, as far as I can see, radio as we know it is obsolete.

I live in a tiny state. Most of our traditional radio stations are owned by either Clear Channel or Citadel. The days of locally owned radio are pretty much over, and in a state where the population of our entire state is all of 1.2 million people, there just doesn't seem to be much room for local media.

The days of local artists sending their stuff to a radio station hoping for air play is over. So, what do we do now? We get online. We "blip" our favorite music (http://blip.fm/ ); we listen to online internet radio, and hey, some of those guys are awesome and twitter buds of mine, and I am proud of their accomplishments. As for the artists, there is myspace, facebook, twitter, a score of ways to promote themselves in hopes of being "discovered".

I am curious to see if newly created vehicles will install mini-laptops in cars for music pleasure as opposed to decks or satellite radio. It's just an idea. It is an idea that somewhat makes me sad.
Perhaps it has already been done in some form. Maybe I ignore it.

I will always have a love for radio. REAL radio. And I will never forget the words of my fallen friend. I will also never forget the radio teacher I had who would give me a hard time because he thought I had talent.

Radio may have broken my heart several times...or is it the times that have broken radio? Either way, my perspective was this: There is a song for everything. A song has been written to make you laugh, make you cry, make you think, etc., and God, I wanted to be the one to bring it to the people. I wanted to play it for them.

If everyone has their poison, for me, it is music. It is my drug of choice. I am not saying that internet radio takes any more or any less effort. I am not saying that internet DJ's work more or less than any others. In fact, from what I am gathering, a lot of radio now is pre-recorded. Sad, but true.

The fact is that technology has changed the channel. The death of cart machines and reel to reel was imminent. However, the concept is still there. And, still there is a song for everything.
There is an opinion for everything. There is someone out there, somewhere, playing that song, or giving that opinion. I guess I just need to come to terms with the fact that there are other ways to do it now.

I believe I have come to terms with it, and if not, it's okay. My broadcasting degree collects dust as I prepare to begin my next adventure: Majoring in psychology this coming September...Oh the irony.

~Chrissyisms~

This Post is Dedicated to Michael J. Gonsalves and all of the victims of The Station Nightclub Fire; West Warwick, RI; February 2003. Talented. Passionate. When I hear those three words, I think of this band, Turn to Dust.
I had the pleasure of being able to see them perform last night at KC's Tap in Pawtucket, RI.

My duty as a blogger is to pick things apart and dissect them. That is what I was born to do, only with less blood and guts, and without a swarm of bees attacking me for killing their friend. And so, every time I am blogging something such as a band, I am looking for specific things, and offering creative advice. Let me be the first to tell you. There is nothing anyone could offer this band that they do not already have.

Xan has an extremely powerful voice with a childlike enthusiasm that no body can duplicate. Nils makes the guitar scream with Ron right along side him on bass. Lee is a unique character who can make ya laugh in a second, but can slam the skins with the force of thunder, and they all seem to be more than capable of being in the forefront and getting the audience engaged.

A lot of bands I have seen lately are cover bands. Turn to Dust did belt out their version of Pat Benatar's "Hell is For Children" which is probably the best cover of that song I have heard in a long time. Only Pat Benatar herself could have done it better.

The best thing about Turn to Dust is the originality. They will rock the house! But hey. Don't take my word for it. See for yourself: http://www.myspace.com/turntodustmusic

~Chrissyisms

Why, as a Red Sox fan, I don't mind Yankee fans.

August 20, 2002 my dad took his last breath while taking a nap just before a Red Sox game. He never did get to see them move on to the Series, but they did. The one thing I miss the most about him is hearing him screamin' at the TV as I was walking down our street. He would yell at the players and coaches almost as if they could hear him.

I come from a long line of Red Sox fans. My math teacher in junior high used to incorporate math and baseball by teaching us how to find the batting averages of the players. The energy Mr. Arnold had was intense and filled with child-like excitement as he taught it.

I have learned over the years that New Englanders, as a whole, are very passionate about their sports, whether it is the New England Patriots, or the Providence Bruins. This includes the Yankees.

You see, Rhode Island, I think, is centrally located, smack dab in the middle of Massachusetts and Connecticut (I have often joked that the state name should really be changed to Connectichusetts just to be geographically correct). Connecticut, which is a fairly large state, also borders New York City. And hey, let's face it. New York is a cool, cool place. Who wouldn't get wrapped up in all of the excitement handed down from a big city?

The point is, of COURSE Connecticut people are going to like the NY Yankees. Some RI people like the NY Yankees. I find that the majority are from the little town of Westerly, which borders cities such as Pawcatuck, CT. , but again, there is that Connectfactor.

Like all New Englanders, Yankees fans are just as passionate about their team. And I have been engaged in conversations where there is a bit of a rivalry war of the words going on...and in the end, it is a barrel of laughs, perhaps a shared pitcher of beer, and someone always wins. Can't beat that, can you?

I love the fact that we can joke around and enjoy the rivalry as opposed to attack each other over it. And hey, even I like to watch Derek Jeter. No question. (Go Sox!!)

~Chrissyisms

To Tweet or not to Tweet. What is "Twitter"

Twitter. I am sure everyone has heard of it. Often times, I am asked to describe it. There really is no way to accurately describe the power of the tweet. All I can say is the words : "What are you doing?" will never be viewed the same again.

From bloggers, to musicians, to actors, to comedians, to housewives, to weirdos like myself who have absolutely no purpose in life (giggle), you will find all different kinds of people sending updates of what they are doing to a ton of others deemed as "followers".

Twitter has become the social media king in today's modern technological means of communicating. In some ways, I am concerned that tweeting, or other forms of social media, is becoming a scary replacement for actual human contact outside of the electronic box. And who can blame people? The human race seems to be less trustworthy than it ever has been.

Have you ever been pissed off at a friend and just WISHED you could DELETE them or block them from your life? Welcome to Twitter. Welcome to Facebook. Welcome to Myspace. I have DONE it. To friends (or ex friends) in real and electronic life. What can I say, I'm a bitch when you cross me.

And, in retrospect, you all know you get pissed off when you find out you have been deleted. I know a few people like that. I won't mention any names, although, I have not experienced this on Twitter as of yet, I have seen it on Myspace. Does the fact that the Myspace friend is an ex count?

Twitter is kind of a neat thing. Perhaps at best, a glorified chat room with a few perks involved. You get a simple message across if you need to. It can put you in touch with your favorite artists. It can connect you with like minded souls. I have been VERY fortunate to have made the acquaintance of some very cool "tweeple". Some have become great buds.

Not all of the musicians (I use them as an example because I could care less about Ashton or any other celebs for that matter), ignore their fan base. Take Collective Soul for example. They really do enjoy the tweets of their fans. And Blues Traveler. Another good one, Big Brother and The Holding Company. A great musician to follow would be Blasko, who is one of the best bassists in the industry (see Ozzy Osbourne or Rob Zombie). And you know, Tweeples, they really don't want to hear how awesome they are, although I am also guilty of that. They hear that all the time, and my guess is that by now they already know this. They do like to know that you understand that they are people. They are gifted, yes. But they are people. Treat them as such!

In closing I would like to pay respect to two friends, who without some insight, I would probably NEVER have figured out that behind the box...behind the keyboard...behind the tweet or the hug application you just received from so and so on Facebook..there is a live, breathing, person with a beating heart.

~Chrissyisms

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://chrissyismsri.blogspot.com/2009/07/to-tweet-or-not-to-tweet-what-is.html' title='To Tweet or not to Tweet. Never once have I had such currents of different emotions flowing down the river of feelings. I have actively engaged myself in the Twitter revolt. I have actively engaged myself in the Facebook revolt, through which I have personally interacted with Iranians, come across many different walks of life, people with very different opinions, thoughts, feelings and beliefs. The people I have been fortunate enough to encounter in any part of the world have been very sweet people.

Let's start with this. For our wonderful Western Culture: To me, I find it amazing how still, the Islamic culture is one that is gravely misunderstood by the world, and sadly, the ones to blame for that are the extremists that have taken it's true meaning way too far. They try to use their religion as justice for killing and intimidation. And, let us not forget the extremism displayed within our OWN culture. Islam is simply not about that, anymore than Christianity is. What you all saw happening on 9/11...THAT is NOT what Islam is TRULY about. Let's not be fooled by these extremists that call themselves believers. Let's explore the true meaning of the word "Islam".

The literal meaning of the word Islam is "peace". The religion was established 1,400 years ago when the angel Gabriel revealed himself to the prophet Mohammad, who then recorded it in what is known as The Quran. Now, it would take days for me to get into all of it, but I can tell you a few key things and how I know this. First off let me start by saying no I am not pulling this info up on some website I googled. My ex-husband, who is still one of my greatest friends, is Pakistani. I had to learn quite a few things about it.

First of all, unlike the Christian religion, I learned that baptism is unnecessary, as all are born pure. I have learned that Jesus exists to them as well, but as a prophet, not as the son of God. I have learned that despite certain cultures that take things a little too far, they do seem to have respect for women, and their goal is to protect them. I have learned that unlike the majority of Western culture, it is the eldest son's responsibility to care for the family should the head of the family pass away or become incapacitated. I have also learned that despite the differences, which believe it or not are quite minor, the story in the Quran and The Holy Bible are pretty much the same. One is just a little newer than the other, but the background is the same.

With that said let me address the wonderful Islamic community: The people of the world are not supporting your efforts in Iran because we have anything to gain from it. We are supporting you because we see your struggle. We see your strife. We want you to be happy and not live in fear. We want your children to be able to have the same opportunities as every other child. We want you to be able to post something on the internet and not be chastised for it. We want for you the ability to leave your house, pick up a newspaper, and read the truth. It would really be alot easier for everyone to just walk away from it, wouldn't it? I am really tired of hearing some of you say that we are only doing this for some kind of reward, monetary gain of sorts. Have you ever heard of human rights? Did Allah create the world with the intention of one man controlling your every move? Absolutely not. The Earth was a gift to ALL of mankind. Not one man is greater than the other, and differences are what make it so fruitful. That is also how we learn about one another.

We want you to be able to freely talk to people from other nations and cultures, and we want to be able to talk to you. The more we learn of one another, the more tolerant we will be to each other's world. Most of all, we will never agree that murder, violence and intimidation is the way to any one's heart. They are using fear tactics on you, and for the sake of your children, and your children's children, you must keep up this fight. Technology is a beautiful thing. The world is a beautiful place. There is so much to learn, and so much that needs to be done here.

To everyone: When I saw the images of the students in Iran being beaten and killed, their dorms destroyed, and their human rights stripped (all of Iranians), it broke my heart. The Iranian Government may have just killed the doctor that would've cured aids, or the physicist who may have discovered a way to break the speed of sound. These kids had hopes, dreams, and they were your future. They are every one's future. Mr. Ahmadinejad, You have done a grave injustice to the world by playing "God" and ending their lives prematurely. You have taken them from their families, you have taken them from the world. I do not know of any God that would allow you to impersonate them and let you do such a thing. As far as I am concerned, you are a sociopathic killer. I put you , sir, in the same category as Charles Manson. Congratulations.

No one said our ideology has to be the same in this world. In fact, if it were, I think I would find this place we call Earth to be painstakingly boring. But for those who are saying the people of the world are "feeding the fire" for some kind of personal or financial gain-you could not be more wrong. The United States government, and administration of President Barack Obama has barely commented on the situation. And as for everyone else? It's as simple as this. Lying, cheating and stealing votes is wrong. The people's voice (and yes, it was ONE loud voice) was not heard and they have been deceived. Murder and violence bestowed upon people peacefully protesting the outcome and making their voices heard since they were not heard the first time is wrong. And THAT is why we are here, banding together. Not just for Iran. But for all of humanity.

New horizons..

So, yesterday I found out I am going to school pretty much on a full scholarship. Yeah...good stuff. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you try and take the initiative to do so. Of course, I'm not there yet, so I don't wanna jinx myself.

Going back to school will require a lot of self discipline. I have enough people around me pulling for me though that I don't think it will be an issue. I wonder if I will be an honor student? Hmm. My guess is that it is going to take a lot of work, but I can do it.

I assume it will be much different than broadcasting school. Depending on how you look at things, it may or may not come easy to ya. I loved it. It was my thing. Now that I am older, it seems I am more interested in the business side of radio than the talent side of it, or technical side. No matter, there aren't any jobs in the field anyhow, and what I have learned in college over 14 yrs ago is now obsolete, and I believe the internet is taking over radio anyhow.

So, what am I going to study? Well, for now, General Studies. That leaves the door open for anything. Although, I am quite interested in how the human psyche works...
Let there be no misunderstanding that I still like to sound off and be silly and goofy and just spew out whatever comes to mind in a random sort of nature, but that is what the internet is for.

~Chrissy

Ever Wonder...

...why we wind up where we wind up? I do. And then, something happens and you wind up on this crazy electronic box, and believe it or not, you make friends, or even better, connect with those you haven't seen in a gazillion years.

It's kind of neat to see where people are today. It is kind of like your own little segment of "Where are they now?", only the show is somewhat twisted, because the camera is located within the depths of your soul and your mind, all controlled by a centralized power box, called the human heart...(or maybe not necessarily in that order. Who knows?) But nonetheless, YOU are ultimately the host of this show.

Personally, I believe that certain things happen for a reason. It is what it is, and that's the way it is. You could spend your entire life saying "what if", only to find out that "if" was never there in the first place. And before you know it, even the "if" is gone because you spent too much damn time worrying about it. There is nothing wrong with hoping for a brighter future. However, in retrospect, we never can truly take any of these things with us when we go. Why not enjoy your life while you have it in this state of being? Does it matter what happens when you go?

Furthermore, I am afraid to die. I do not welcome nor embrace it. But I know it is one day to be. What makes it so tragic? I think it is the fear of the unknown to be quite honest, although, some may argue that it is simply that we are raised to believe it's this way or that way. When really, the answer lies in YOU.
So, cherish your friends, your family, those around you, and even those who are not. You learn from them DAILY.

~Chrissy

Yeah, so...

The journey of life continues as we sit and wonder what it is we are here for. A wise man tells me we are all connected, through the beauty of physics. He may in fact be onto something. Does that mean it pains you any less to hear that someone you are close to, although expected, has been diagnosed with lung cancer in one form or another? Of course not. It is how you handle the situation that makes you or breaks you. I learned a long time ago that in times of crisis, I am the "go to" person...I am there for my friends, and can easily help them through tough situations. It is what I do best. However, when it comes to something that bothers me, I not only decline all help offered to me, I somehow don't handle it too well at times, which I noticed quite vividly with the death of my father, grandmother, best friend, etc.And so, am I happy about the latest developments with my mom? Hell no, of course not...especially since we share genealogical make up. But, I have learned, through a great woman whom I once admired (a former manager), that it is best to be proactive than reactive...As a great man once told me (yes, the same one mentioned above) there is strength in numbers, thus, to be proactive will help her defeat this insidious enemy even better, and make her even stronger, and hey, there is still time. From what I am told, the chances are good it has been caught in time. And with that, I embrace this latest challenge with eyes wide open and vigilance; strength and determination. It is too important NOT to.Peace...

~Chrissy
