Been A While |
It has certainly been quite some time since I have updated this blog. Good to see it is still in existence.
I am going to focus my thoughts on a few different things at the moment. Since my last entry, I have been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. It is not in my immediate family, and I have my own theory as to why this is happening to not only myself, but millions of others across the country in my age group. This is typically something they say comes on in your 40's. Well, let me just tell you all. I just turned 37 last month. I was diagnosed last May and it has been a bit of a struggle ever since. That is just one thing I am going to touch upon in my new and improved entries.
Secondly, in light of the entire Occupy Movement, I have to honestly say how disappointed I am to find that the ones who have taken an oath to serve and protect us, are the ones we need to be protected from. I have seen countless time the unjust treatment of those who are simply trying to make a point. However, I am most disappointed in the way their fellow citizen has spoken of and to the movement. The point of the movement may have escaped you. That is fine; but, where does it give you anti-occupy people the right to harass and otherwise bully your fellow human being? I have found that most who do, either do not understand the message; or simply do not care, and are upset that 'this' may be slightly disrupting their everyday lives. Shame on you all for being so selfish. While you are entitled to your opinion, please allow me to express that you do not speak for me, or others like me, who are in complete solidarity with the movement and its message.
Thirdly, why is everyone so upset that Rhode Island's state Christmas tree is being officially called a 'Holiday Tree'? Last time I checked, this country was formed on the basis of religious freedom and separation of church and state. Governor Lincoln Chafee, as a servant to the public, yes that is right, a servant to 'We The People', did exactly what is right given the position he is in. Get over it, Christians. Your religion is not the only one out there.
The last thing I am going to touch upon here is the constant removal of our basic human rights by none other than the people you voted in office - The Congressional body of the USA. They have passed provisions based on scare tactics. These provisions could very well limit, if not completely do away with, our 'freedom' as we know it. I can certainly attest that Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse will NEVER get another vote from this citizen, no way. The government has way too much involvement in our everyday lives as it is, and unfortunately, most of us cannot afford to buy our own. Stop feeding into the lies, read the Patriot Act over again. Understand what it really means for you, as an American. That is all I ask.
In closing, I would like to wish every single person reading this, of every denomination, a wondrous and safe holiday season.

Halloween to CHANGE in RI? |
In the midst of tough economic times, people are looking for their legislators here for relief; for answers; for help. People are looking for the creation of jobs. People are looking to no longer be a part of the unemployment statistics. One Rhode Island state House representative apparently hears the concern of the 12% of unemployed, and other constituents by proposing a bill....he wants to CHANGE the date of Halloween. That's right, you saw correctly. Apparently, the issues plaguing our state are nothing compared to this problem.
Rhode Island is know for it's corruption in government - it's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know, and how much money you have. The Rep. Don Lally, Jr., apparently had this to say:
"State Rep. Donald Lally Jr. tells The Providence Journal that he filed the bill at the request of a constituent who thought it would help people and businesses."

Lotus Land |
So, you wanna see some good bands, eh?
Last Friday night was like any other typical Friday night for me. Dirty Deeds was playing, and to me, they are the epitome of excellence when it comes to tribute bands. Often I get teased by some of my other friends who think I clearly have forgotten that there are other bands out there besides them. I won't mention any names....
Usually, when I go see Dirty Deeds, I do not make it there for the opening band's performance. To me, it isn't really a big deal since I am not going to see that band anyway. This particular Friday night was a little bit different. I actually wanted to see this band. I mean, who wouldn't? Just about everyone I know LOVES the music of Rush, but can these guys PLAY it. That was what I wondered. The band who was on before Deeds was Lotus Land, and I couldn't have been more impressed than I was the first time I saw Bob Conti pass out shots at the bar during "Have a Drink on Me."
The energy was unsurpassed as what looked like the real Geddy Lee was belting out vocals. It wasn't Geddy Lee, however, it was Chris Nelson (dubbed AKA Naski on their website: www.lotuslandband.com) The music was perfectly in sync, and if I didn't only travel a half mile away to see them alongside my all time favorite tribute band, I could have almost sworn I was at a Rush show.
To sum this up, they were amazing, and to pair them up with Dirty Deeds was clearly an act of sheer brilliance. Way to go JR's!!!
Be sure to check them out with another great band, ALIVE Kiss Tribute (New England) at the Palace Theater; Waterbury, CT. on May 15th, yet another great "Don't wanna miss" Pair!!

Dirty Deeds |
I must say, I do go and see Dirty Deeds a lot. It's as if they're the only band out there in my little world; but I have to give credit where credit is due. The fact of the matter is that at every show, no matter what kind of mood you may be in, these guys will be certain to turn it around or make it better. I honestly have not seen a show that they have put on that was bad, or even mediocre for that matter. It's always a screaming good time.
What makes this band unique? I wonder if it is the fact that besides being incredible musicians, they are also amazing people....they don't ever miss a beat, and they know how to show you a good time. There are some interesting riffs involved in AC DC songs and let me just say, Randy and Mike have them mastered, no doubt.
Bob amazes me. He is barely 21 and still keeps rockin'. (wink) Not to mention Barry and Roger who are ALWAYS in sync, exactly the way a bassist and drummer SHOULD be. If you haven't seen them yet, you really do not know what you are missing. They truly are the best thing to happen to AC DC since....well...AC DC; so much in fact, the band logo is permanently on my left shoulder blade....yeahhh. They ALWAYS have my back.

*SUMMER REVIEWS* |
Looks like the summer concert line up is looking good!! I haven't yet decided who I am going to torture with my blog reviews yet, but as soon as I do, you will be the first to know.
I would certainly love to see Dave Matthews again, but that would be a biased no brainer for me, since he is definitely by far one of the most talented artists and song writers I have ever heard in my entire life. Therefore, I may just post some orgasmic pictures if I do get the opportunity to see him perform again this year. It has been, after all, about four years since Chris Parenti and I made the voyage into Massachusetts to be teased lovingly with the sweet sound of Dave's magical voice echoing across the venue.
STAY TUNED!!

Amazing. |
Just another day in my life. Things change all the time for me. I was dating a cool guy and unfortunately it didn't work out. These things happen. We are still friends, and that is what is important.
In the meantime, I learned that sometimes something has to end in order for something wonderful to happen. That is exactly what happened. That is when Rob and I took our friendship one step further, and it was probably the best thing that we could have done.
I won't count my chickens before they hatch but I will say that this has the potential to turn itself into a lifetime movie.
Rob is everything I am NOT used to, but have dreamed about. He is sweet. He is honest. He is caring. He is the most lovable guy I have ever encountered; so much that it's almost impossible to believe. He is very cute. He likes the same stuff I do; wrestling, music.
Time will tell what happens, but I have a good feeling about this one. Could he be "the one" ? |
